Protonix (pantoprazole) long term treatment?

acid reflux treatment
jack white asked:

I was originally prescribed 16 weeks of protonix (pantoprazole), 40mg daily, for treatment of GERD (acid reflux). Then I moved country, and the general physician where I am now put me on protonix as a long term maintenance therapy, since i had reccuring symptoms. Ive been on it for 18 months now, and I’m considering stopping the drug though as i have concerns over its long term safety. Has anyone else been on protonix/pantoprazole for over a year (or several years)? And what did your doctor say about the safety of the treatment?
