I’m concerned because I’ve seen the effects of heartburn and acid reflux left untreated, as my uncle had this and ended up getting esophogus cancer. I would like my boyfriend to see a doctor to rule out any major medical issues, and get treatment. But he doesn’t want to see a doctor, how to I make him go?

My daughter has been getting 5tsps of rice cereal in her bottle since she was 3 months old as a treatment for her acid reflux. She is 4 months old now and lately she has been constipated. The pediatrician said that I could start putting oatmeal cereal in her bottle every other feeding so she is not getting as much rice but she will not take the bottles with the oatmeal, I think because it is too thick and it does not come through the nipple easily. I need to cut back on the rice she is getting because she is really getting constipated. I am thinking of only putting 3tsps of rice cereal in her bottle and giving her 1tbsp of oatmeal mixed with formula with a spoon but I am worried that putting less rice cereal in her bottle will make her reflux worse again. I really welcome any advice or opinions.

My daughter is almost 1 month old. When she is asleep she grunts really loud. Her face gets all red and she stretches out her muscles. The grunting is continuous through the night and enough to keep me awake. I have told the doctor. He seemed unconcerned and said so long as she is just turning red and not blue it is fine. I have done some research on the internet and found out that there is a disorder called “grunting baby syndrome.” Have you known anyone dx with GBS? If so, what was the treatment? Something else that I saw was acid reflux. Any info on newborn acid reflux?
Baby has regular bowel movements that are of appropriate color and consistency. She rarely spits-up.

My husband has had a sour stomach for about 2 weeks off and on. He has a lot of stomach problems (acid reflux and ulcers) and has had a sour stomach before. But after treatment it usually goes away. He has vomiting, diarrhea and belching. It’s the most god awful smell. Like rotton eggs or something. We don’t currently have insurance so it’s not feasible to go to the Dr. unless we go to the ER. and that will cost a fortune. He is also lactose intalerant and thinks, that might be what is causing it. He has never had this bad of a reaction to dairy before.
He has tried acid reducers and the baking soda trick. He has had problems with ulcers since he was 2 and has had 2 surgeries for them, one when he was 2 and the other when he was 18. He know that he is supposed to take his lactose pills but he didn’t this time. I think he has learned his lesson. I am needing to know what to do with him now that what’s done is done. He is in sever pain , intermitently.

Then I moved country, and the general physician where I am now put me on protonix as a long term maintenance therapy, since i had reccuring symptoms. Ive been on it for 18 months now, and I’m considering stopping the drug though as i have concerns over its long term safety. Has anyone else been on protonix/pantoprazole for over a year (or several years)?And what did your doctor say about the safety of the treatment?

I used to have it really badly and was on like 20 different medications like muscle relaxers (which is a new treatment for GERD) and really strong acid reducers. I stopped taking them around November and I don’t go to the doctors because Ihaven’t gotten sick like my mother (who is a nurse) said I would from not taking my medicine. My mom also stopped taking me to the doctor because she said it would be stupid to do so since I don’t take my medicine. Any suggestions on the food?

I have never really had a problem with reflux, but a few years ago I got an ulcer. After it was treated, things were fine, but in the last 6 months, there have been 4 separate episodes where I get this growing burning pain at the base of my sternum in the center and it doesn’t move, but it lasts for maybe 3-5 hours. I have taken rolaids and an acid controller but felt no difference in the pain. The pain resembles the same pain from my ulcer but like I said, it only last a few hours where as my ulcer pain a few years ago lasted till I got treatment which was about 36-40 hours.
It is painful and 3 of the episodes have been at bedtime, the latest as I was getting ready for bed.
Any thoughts on this would be helpful.
